What's Up

Your guide to life and culture in Kitsap … and beyond.

Something sweet to do this weekend

I was glad to hear Bremerton’s Rodeo Drive-In will open this weekend, ushering in a season of warm weather and nostalgia in all the best ways. Drive-ins, colored by pop culture as a place for candy-sharing and first kisses, don’t appear in the same numbers they used to: The Rodeo Drive-In is one of only 400 still in business in the United States.
According to its Web site, the drive-in was constructed in 1949. Back then, its single-screen field held more than 600 cars. Now, the drive-in can accommodate nearly 900 cars between three separate screens. It is the second largest outdoor theater complex in the Northwest.
This weekend, you can catch showings of “Avatar” and “Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakuel;” “Shutter Island” and “The Crazies;” or “Percy Jackson and The Olympians: The Lightning Thief” and the “Tooth Fairy.”
