The Academy Awards air March 7 (in case you’ve had better things to do, and don’t already know) and if you still haven’t, you can catch a few of the best picture contenders in Kitsap theaters.
James Cameron’s juggernaut, “Avatar,” is playing at the Regal Poulsbo 10, the Regal Silverdale 4 and Bainbridge Cinemas. Tom Ford’s “A Single Man,” (starring leading actor nominee Colin Firth) starts its run at the Historic Orchard Theater this weekend. Also playing at the Historic Orchard: The Blind Side (with best leading actress nominee Sandra Bullock) and “Up in the Air” (with two supporting actress nominees, Vera Farmiga and Anna Kendrick). Crazy Heart (and leading actor favorite Jeff Bridges, with best supporting actress nominee Maggie Gyllenhaal) can be found at the Lynwood Theatre on Bainbridge. (See a full list of nominees here.)
To tie you over until March 7, here’s a link to Roberto Benigni winning an Oscar for Best Foreign Language Film for “Life is Beautiful” in 1999. I can’t help but smile as he jumps onto the seat in front of him, his arms waving wildly as if he is conducting the audience in its roaring applause.
